For many years, our church has held a yearly rummage sale. The rummage sale is held on Friday and Saturday of 3rd weekend of October. This is a very large undertaking which involves most everyone in the church. We rearrange the tables in the basement, where we have a kitchen and our coffee hour after church each Sunday. Then we arrange tables in the Sunday school building. Next, we work, Monday-Thursday, from 8 a.m. until noon, pricing and arranging the rummage sale items which are donated by members of our congregation and by friends and neighbors in the community. At noon each day we gather for lunch which is prepared for us by members of our church.

On Friday morning we gather an hour before the sale begins. The talented cooks in our church heat up the griddle, stir pots of soup, cut pie and make coffee to prepare to cook breakfast for rummage sale workers. They will continue to cook and serve all day as we sell breakfast, lunch, and dinner (on Friday only) to those who have come looking for a bargain. We have found that the rummage sale involves a lot of laughter as customers visit with friends who they run into while shopping. On Saturday afternoon at 3:00 the sale ends and the clean-up begins. When all is packed up, we donate the leftover items to a local donation center.

The rummage sale is our only fundraiser of the year. Three quarters of the money goes to the United Methodist Women’s group which organizes the sale. The rest goes to the church in recognition of the fact that we couldn’t do it without everyone’s help. For the rest of the year, the money which the UMW received from the rummage sale is used to make donations to local and worldwide charities. The UMW is particularly concerned with helping organizations that focus on helping women and children.

Again, our Annual Rummage Sale takes place Friday and Saturday on the last weekend of October. Friday from 9 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (dinner is available that evening) and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We hold a “.50 cent, all you can fit into a bag”, sale from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday.
